Minister Brahma recalled contributions and sacrifice of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma towards the protection and welfare of the Bodo and other down trodden communities in the region in his days.

He strongly opposed British plans to attach the then Goalpara district of Assam to East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh), advocating to keep the district within Assam.

In 1929, a memorandum with an 11-point charter of demands was submitted to the Simon Commission in Shillong, including the demand for a Bodo Regiment and protection of indigenous rights.
