KOKRAJHAR, MAY 31: Acknowledging the significant developmental achievements in the Bodoland Territorial Region, Assam’s Minister for Panchayat & Rural Development and Tourism, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, praised the exemplary leadership of BTC CEM Pramod Boro in successfully implementing flagship schemes of the P&RD Department.
“BTC, under the leadership of CEM Pramod Boro, has achieved a milestone in implementing Panchayat and Rural Development schemes, effectively reaching out to the marginalised and needy communities,” stated Minister Dass.
“The performance of Kokrajhar, especially in comparison with many other districts of Assam, is highly encouraging. Other districts should take inspiration from the dedication and seriousness shown here in implementing developmental schemes,” he added.
The Minister made these remarks while reviewing the progress of key programmes under Panchayat & Rural Development (P&RD), the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM), and the Department of Tourism at the BTC Secretariat in Kokrajhar on Friday.
Minister Dass expressed satisfaction over the implementation of key schemes such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G). He noted the visible impact these schemes have had in improving rural livelihoods and infrastructure across BTR.
During the ASRLM review, the Minister focused on schemes including the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme, One District One Product (ODOP), and Lakhpati Abou, and emphasised the importance of marketing support under ODOP to boost rural entrepreneurship.
In reviewing the initiatives under the Tourism Department, Minister Dass called for joint efforts by the P&RD and Tourism Departments to develop infrastructure, particularly in Raimona National Park. He noted with appreciation that the number of foreign tourists in BTR had risen dramatically—from just 33 in 2021–22 to 3,975 in 2024–25—reflecting improved peace and stability as well as robust infrastructure growth. It is also noteworthy that a total of 80660 tourists visited BTR in the last year.
Addressing the gathering, BTC CEM, Pramod Boro urged officers to work with commitment and innovation to ensure that the benefits of all government schemes reach the most deserving segments of society in a timely and effective manner. He also sought continued support from the Government of Assam to accelerate development in the BTR region.
The review meeting was attended by BTC Executive Members Dr. Dharma Narayan Das (Tourism), Dr. Nilut Swargiary (PHE), Political Adviser to the CEM Shri Madhab Chetry, BTC Secretary Dhiraj Saud, and senior officials from both the P&RD and Tourism Departments.
