KOKRAJHAR, APRIL 5: The influential All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has expressed its concern over the dismal performance of Sixth Schedule districts in the recently declared Gunotsav 2025 results.

The districts of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), including Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur, Udalguri along with Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao have been ranked at the bottom of the state list.
Addressing the reporters at a press conference held at the Bodofa House in Kokrajhar on Saturday,ABSU president Dipen Boro expressed serious concerned over the poor performance in the recent declared Gunotsav of 2024-25.
Boro attributes poor results due to teacher shortage, particularly in LP and upper primary UP schools, lack of specialized Mathematics and Science teachers, lack of officials including IS and BEEO in Udalguri, Baksa, and Kokrajhar over the past years.

Boro urged the government to implement clause 6.3 of the historic BTR Peace Accord, emphasizing that concrete steps are necessary to address the educational deficiencies and improve the educational situation in the region.
He informed that the student’s union is set to conduct a review discussion and fact-finding exercise on the outcomes of Gunotsav 2025. The meeting, scheduled to be held on April 10 at Bodoland University, which will bring together 500 teachers from four districts to explore ways to improve education in the region.

The initiative follows dismal performances by several schools and students—particularly in the Sixth Schedule districts of Udalguri, Baksa, Kokrajhar, Tamulpur and Chirang—during the state Education Department’s annual evaluation exercise
ABSU president Boro while attributing the poor results to several key issues, including staff shortages, lack of resources, poor attendance, and substandard teaching quality.
“The vacant posts of District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) and Inspector of Schools in Udalguri, Baksa, and Kokrajhar have remained unfilled for over a year and a half, further aggravating the crisis,” Boro said.
The student’s union has also reiterated its demand for the provincialisation of Bodo and other medium schools in the BTR, as well as Bodo-medium schools across Assam, in line with Clause 6.3 of the Bodo Peace Accord, 2020.

The student’s union affirmed its commitment to improving education quality in the region and ensuring students receive the support they need to succeed. Earlier, on March 27, the state’s flagship school evaluation programme, Gunotsav 2025, concluded on a high note, with Sivasagar emerging as the top-performing district for the fourth time.

ABSU president Dipen Boro stated that the student’s union is working dedicatedly towards the welfare and quality educational development of the Bodo community. He said that the Gunotsav results must be uplifted in days to come through a good performance.
