Uruka celebrates in Kokrajhar ahead of Bhogali Bihu

KOKRAJHAR, JAN 13: Along with rest of the state of Assam, Kokrajhar residents have celebrated the ‘Uruka’, the feast-filled eve of the Bhogali Bihu or Magw Domashi, marking the state’s traditional harvest festival.

Fish markets in Kokrajhar- the city of peace, witnessed an early morning rush as people thronged to buy their favorite fresh catches, including Chital, Borali, and Bhokua, among other varieties. The bustling markets were abuzz with the excitement of shoppers preparing for the festivities.
Various kinds of fishes are sold at variable prices on the Uruka day,apart from big quality sizes across the market.

Residents were also seen making last-minute purchases of ingredients and delicacies to enrich the festive spirit of Bihu, known as Domashi among the Bodo community.
The traditional dishes, pithas, sitao, laroos, mola are being prepared in homes across the region, adding warmth and flavor to the celebrations.

Magw Domashi or Magh Bihu, celebrated in mid-January, signifies the joy of harvest and togetherness. 
The Uruka, the night before, is marked by grand feasts and community bonding. People construct bhelaghars in paddy fields, where they cook, feast, and rejoice around bonfires.
The festive spirit is evident as families and communities come together to celebrate this cherished tradition, preserving the rich cultural heritage of Assam.

Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has extended his Bhogali Bihu -Magw Domashi wishes to all citizens of the Bodoland region as well state of Assam as a whole on the Uruka day celebration.
