KOKRAJHAR,DEC 18: A two-day awareness programme on the topic of ‘reclaiming the climate for a resilient and sustainable future’ under the Green Bodoland Mission (GBM),Govt of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) began on Wednesday held at the Barengabari village community hall, Manash Tiger Reserve in Baksa district.
The event was organised by the Green Bodoland Mission (GBM),an initiative of the government of BTR that emphasized bringing green, smart and peaceful Bodoland.
Notably,the Green Bodoland Mission was launched in July last,and till date 258 youth clubs across the BTR were engaged and ten villages have been adapted under the mission.
More than 1.2 lakh saplings have been planted at various places under the GBM mission in the plantation drive, particularly community land, forest land, village playground in the Bodoland region.
The GBM has adopted the Barengabari village along the Manash Tiger Reserve, and planted more that 2400 saplings across the village itself within four months of the mission journey.
Hundreds of participants from Barengabari village participated in the program that highlighted the initiative of plastic free villages, healthy environments and attractive nature building up amongst the communities in the area.
The awareness program has also been emphasized to make zero waste management environment along the village through the engagement of local peoples to create attraction of tourism aspects along the Manash National Park in Bodoland Territorial Region.
An interaction session with participants was carried on the awareness creating on the waste management and cleanliness drive.
A power point presentation representing the GBM mission and Midway Journey was also presented in the event.
A cultural demonstration had created cultural amusement amongst the attending audience.
Mission Director of Green Bodoland Mission, Manaranjan Das, UPPL media secretary, Hantigiri Narzary, Sikhiri Cottage managing director Shakti Singh, stakeholder members from NGOs like Midway Journey,BTR fellow experts were prominent attendees in the event.
Das stated that the GBM has initiated the mission with planting multiple seedling of plants across the region.He said that the mission received a good response from the citizens of the region,and accordingly able to plant more than 1.2 lakh seedlings in last four months so far.
He mentioned that the GBM mission has adopted ten villages in the BTR, including Barengabari village along the Manash Tiger Reserve in Baksa district where a huge numbers of plants are so far planted.He said that villagers from the Barengabari have extended their full cooperation in this venture to make green Bodoland.He has opined that the GBM is a flagship programme of BTR government under the leadership of Pramod Boro,the chief executive member of BTR while making a green, smart and peaceful Bodoland.
