KOKRAJHAR,JAN 10: A workshop on ‘space technology and geospatial advancement’ was held at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office in Tamulpur on Thursday.
The event was organised in collaboration with the district administration,Tamulpur and the Assam State Space Application Centre (ASSAC), under the Department of Science, Technology, and Climate Change, government of Assam.
The workshop began with an inaugural speech by ASSAC Director PLN Raju, who emphasized the potential of space technology in transforming Tamulpur into a model district.
The District Commissioner(DC), Pankaj Chakraborty, addressing the gathering, highlighted the use of space technology to tackle local issues such as human-elephant conflicts, a significant concern in the region.
DC Chakraborty has welcomed the workshop and hopeful of useful activities in days to come ahead.
A book on Tamulpur was also unveiled during the event. The ASSAC team elaborated on various applications of space technology and geospatial tools. Dr. BK Sandikai from the North East Space Application Centre (NESAC) provided insights into the utilization of space technology for the Northeast region.
Additionally, Utpal Sharma, additional Director of ASSAC, discussed applications of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
Demonstrations of NESDRA, NRSC, ISRO’s mobile apps, and dashboards were showcased by NESAC officer, Niloy Nishant.
Scientists and officials from ASSAC, including Runjun Baruah, Kaustav Baruah, Debashish Baruah, Dipankar Sharma, Jumoni Baruah, Dr. Kalyanjit Sharma, and Pranjit Kalita, presented critical aspects of space technology in the event.
The workshop also included online discussions with Shashikant Sharma from ISRO Ahmedabad and Dr Harish Karnatak from IIRS Dehradun which especially attracted the discussion at length in depth.
