Women’s Inter-Club Football Championship Kicks Off in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, MAY 10: The much-awaited 3rd edition of the Women’s Inter-Club Football Championship 2025 officially commenced on Saturday at the SAI Football Ground, Kathalguri in  Kokrajhar. 
The tournament, organized by the Kokrajhar District Sports Association, aims to promote women’s football in the region and provide a competitive platform for emerging female athletes.

The championship was inaugurated with an exciting opening match between SAI SC Kokrajhar and NRL FC. Football enthusiasts from across the district gathered to witness the match, which set a thrilling tone for the tournament. 
In a powerful display of skill and teamwork, NRL FC emerged victorious, defeating SAI SC by a significant margin of 7-2. This win secured NRL FC an early lead in the tournament and highlighted their strong potential to claim the title this year.

According to the association’s vice president, Maguram Balari a total of six teams affiliated with the Kokrajhar District Sports Association are participating in this year’s championship. The matches will be played in a league format and are scheduled to run from May 10 to May 24, offering local football fans a packed calendar of high-energy fixtures.

The opening ceremony of the championship was a dignified affair, graced by several prominent figures from the district’s sports community. Among those present were the association’s president Kabiranjan Brahma, general secretary Premjit Narzary, football committee secretary Biswajit Owary, and women’s committee secretary Binoy Basumatary. Their presence and support reinforced the importance of encouraging women’s participation in sports and underlined the association’s commitment to developing grassroots football in Kokrajhar.

As the tournament unfolds over the next two weeks, it promises to be a celebration of sportsmanship, talent, and community spirit. With fierce competition expected among the six participating teams, fans can look forward to some thrilling encounters and inspiring performances from the district’s finest female footballers.
