Vivek Chetry and Sabina Ray clinch first place in Baukhungri Hill Trekking competition

KOKRAJHAR,APRIL 13: The 12th edition of the Baokhungri Festival has entered into second day on Sunday that withessesd a well attending participants across the state.
Vivek Chetry and Sabina Ray from Kalimpong, West Bengal have emerged as champions in the male and female categories respectively, in the 12th Baukhungri Hill Trekking Competition.

 The event was a key highlight of the ongoing Baokhungri Festival which was organized by the Tourism Department, Government of Bodoland Territorial Council at the scenic foothills of the Baukhungri Hill in Harinaguri, Kokrajhar Bodoland.

The annual hill trekking competition drew participation from hundreds of trekking enthusiasts from across Assam, West Bengal, Odisha, Meghalaya and Manipur. The challenging trek tested the endurance and determination of all competitors.

In the male category, Vivek Chetry secured first place, followed by Lapynkhraw Thabah from Meghalaya in second and Jamon Makri also from Meghalaya in third place.

In the female category, Sabina Ray from Kalimpong West Bengal clinched the top spot. She was followed by Samili Singh from Kolkata in second place while Sangmair Terongpi from Karbi Anglong Assam, finished third.

A cycling competition was also conducted during the festival. In the men’s division, Ronel K Singh from Manipur bagged the first position, Ashish Sherpa from Himachal Pradesh came second, and Thotmachan Awaneshi from Manipur placed third.
In the women’s division, the top three spots were claimed by Phyran Kyandait first and Dakahi Kyandait second from Meghalaya, and Rwisumwi Bala Basumatary from Udalguri Bodoland third.

Adding to the cultural vibrancy, a Bodo traditional food competition was held, featuring 101 varieties of indigenous vegetable leaves known as Gwkha Gwkhui along with a showcase of Geographical Indication (GI) tagged food items. The event was inaugurated by Assam Cabinet Minister UG Brahma.

The Baokhungri Festival, now in its 12th edition, continues to promote the rich cultural heritage, unity, and tourism potential of the Bodoland region. It stands as a testament to the enduring traditions and community spirit of the indigenous people.
