Nirmal Kumar Brahma defeats Suddha Kumar Basumatary
KOKRAJHAR,NOV 23: The ruling United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) has retained the 31 No. Sidli constituency with winning the bye-election defeating nearest contestant BPF candidate by a margin of 36,888 votes as the results of the bye election was declared on Saturday along with other four assembly constituencies in the state of Assam.
UPPL’s candidate, Nirmal Kumar Brahma, backed by the NDA alliance defeated Suddha Kumar Basumatary, candidate of BPF party in a margin of 36,888 votes in a tough contest that saw during the bye-election in Sidli LAC.
Brahma got 94,767 votes while BPF’s Basumatary got 57,879 votes and lost to the UPPL candidate by a margin of 36,888 votes. Sanjib Wary of Congress party got 7601 votes.
Notably,the bye-election was necessitated in the Sidli LAC follow resignation of Joyanta Basumatary after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Kokrajhar HPC in the Parliamentary elections held in June last.
The Sidli LAC saw a triangular contest,and UPPL candidate, Nirmal Kumar Brahma, backed by the NDA alliance, has been being elected to the Assam assembly defeating nearest contestant BPF candidate.
Brahma was former MCLA of Bodoland Territorial Council,and presently president of the Chirang district committee of UPPL party.
After electing as MLA of the Sidli constituency, Brahma extended sincere thanks to all voters of the constituency,and party leaders, workers including party president and the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro, said that the winning in the Sidli LAC is people’s winning.He said that peoples cutting across the communities extended support and voted in favour of UPPL candidate, backed by the NDA alliance, and accordingly won the bye election in a huge margin of votes.He has extended his sincere thanks to the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP president, Bhabesh Kalita and NDA alliance leaders for their bold leadership while taking necessary efforts to win the bye elections.He has wished to work for all round development of the constituency amongst the citizens in days to come.

Pramod Boro,the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region and UPPL president,has congratulated to Nirmal Kumar Brahma on the winning of the Sidli constituency in the bye-election today.

Meanwhile, AGP candidate in Bongaigaon LAC, Deeptimoyee Choudhury won the bye election defeating Congress candidate Brajenjit Singha in margin of over 32,252 votes.
Choudhury got 70478 votes while Singha received 38,225 votes in the election.
