KOKRAJHAR, AUG 19: The chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro inaugurated the newly installed statue of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma, former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha while marking the 23rd death anniversary of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma on Saturday at his burial place Chandamari in Kokrajhar.

Notably, Bineswar Brahma, who was regarded as a harbinger of peace in the region amongst the Bodos and other down trodden communities across the state, was shot dead by unknown miscreants on 19th August in 2000 at his Guwahati Bhetapara residence. Brahma was a noted writer and one of prominent intellectuals, social thinker of the Bodo community. He was deputy general manager in FCI for northeast region besides holding president in the Bodo sahitya sabha when he was assassinated.

The death anniversary was organised by Bodo Sahitya Sabha and Bineswar Brahma Charitable Trust (BBCT).
Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Dr Surath Narzary hoisted sabha flag at half-mast followed by floral tribute to Brahma by his widow Pushpa Rani Brahma at his tomb.

A souvenir was brought out on the occasion to mark the observation amidst huge presence of gathering.
Members, citizens from all walks of life, apart from many organizations like Bodo sahitya sabha, ABSU, ABWWF, All Bodo Primary Teachers Association (ABPTA), Tribal Sangha attended the occasion to pay floral tribute to Bineswar Brahma.

An open seminar on the contribution and life philosophy of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma was held with Dr Surath Narzary, Bodo Sahitya Sabha president in the chair.

CEM Pramod Boro while inaugurating the statue of Bineswar Brahma recalled contributions of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma, former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, towards the uplift and development of Bodo literary and language in the state; on his anniversary.
He said that Bineswar Brahma, who had dedicated and sacrificed his life towards the welfare and uplift of the Bodos in his days.He was a social thinker and noted writer amongst the Bodos.

He said that Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma was the harbinger of peace in the region. He said that Brahma was an extraordinary leader of the sabha as well of Bodo community. Despite, a high official responsibility in FCI, Brahma dedicated his life for Bodo’s development
He said that late Brahma’s contribution and dedication was endless who had been stressed to bring healthy and integrated society in the state.

Boro informed that the government of BTR has been decided to set up Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma Knowledge centre and digital library in every VCDC across the Bodoland region to explore the ideology and philosophy of Bineswar Brahma. He said that the BTR government has been stepping to work for all round development of the society in the region.
‘We must keep alive ideology and philosophy of Brahma while building a well development of language and literary of Bodos in the world’, Boro added.

Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Dr Surath Narzary said that today the Bodo Sahitya Sabha and Bineswar Brahma Charitable Trust jointly observed the death anniversary and remembered his contributions in the field of Bodo language and literature in his days. He said that the Bodo Sahitya Sabha has been emphasizing to keep alive of ideology and philosophy of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma. He said that Bodo sahitya sabha was working to the welfare and uplift of Bodo language and literary in the country.

Among others, Rwngwra Narzary,Rajya Sabha MP, Sahitya Akademi award winner Dr Kameswar Brahma, former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Toren Boro were prominent attendees in the event.
