KOKRAJHAR, JUNE 5: In a development, the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) have once again added one more national park with the nomenclature of Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park (SJNP) along the Haltugaon forest division in Kokrajhar district.
With the coinciding the celebration of World Environment Day,2025 on Thursday, Assam cabinet minister, Urkhao Gwra Brahma inaugurated the Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park in the august presence of Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region, BTR executive members, Ranjit Basumatary, Dhananjay Basumatary,Lok Sabha MP, Joyanta Basumatary, MLA Lawrence Islary, and officials from the forest department,govt of BTR.
Minister Brahma cut the ribbon to inaugurate the national park amidst a well attended gathering of local people, students and officials from the government of Bodoland Territorial Region.
Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed Butterfly Museum cum Conservation & Research Centre at Ultapani along the India -Bhutan border in the district of Kokrajhar.The Inauguration event took place at the Dighli forest camp complex along the entry gate of the national park.
Remarkably,the BTR hosts many rare and beautiful butterfly species, and.hoprful that this centre will be a key hub for their conservation, research, and education, raising awareness and promoting habitat protection.
On the occasion, CEM of BTR, Pramod Boro planted saplings at the event venue inside the forest area under the Dighli forest camp.Earlier, Boro planted saplings at the Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) in the presence of Assam cabinet minister, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, BTC Legislative Assembly speaker,Katiram Boro, MLA Lawrence Islary,and officials from the Kokrajhar medical college and hospital.
CEM of Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro hailed the newly inaugurated Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park in Kokrajhar,and stated that the national park is an addition to the national park arena of the Bodoland region.He said that Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park-the newest jewel in BTR’s crown which was inaugurated on Thursday.He said that the BTR region is a hotspot of tourism sector as nearly one lakh tourists have been recorded in the tourist visit in the national parks in BTR.
