Rup Nath Brahma remembers in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, JUNE 15: Peoples from cutting across the communities offered tributes to Janasevak eminent social thinker and ex-minister of Assam, Rup Nath Brahma on his 122nd birth anniversary being observed on Thursday held at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Chandamari in Kokrajhar.

The event was organised by Rup Nath Brahma Memorial Observance Committee (RNBMOC) to mark the occasion with recalling contribution and dedications of Rup Nath Brahma.
Need to be mentioned that Brahma was born on 15th,1902 at Owabari village near Kokrajhar town and died on 23rd January (1968).

Brahma was associated with Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Assam Tribal League, students organisations and rendered his services towards the welfare and uplift of the Bodos and other down trodden communities across the state. He was regarded as eye opener of the in the sense of political spheres amongst the Bodos and other tribal communities besides holding various positions including MLA, minister, MP in his days.

He was also well known one of prominent intellectual and leading personalities amongst the Bodos.
Assam cabinet minister and Sahitya Akademi awardee Urkhao Gwra Brahma lit the lamp to inaugurate the birth anniversary observation amidst presence of huge participation, apart from dignitaries, family members of Rup Nath Brahma, writers and student fraternities from different parts of the region.
The observance committee members accorded warm felicitation with traditional Aronai and bouquet to the family members of Rup Nath Brahma on the occasion.

Noted poet and Sahitya Akademi awardee Jwishri Boro, noted writer Dr Indira Boro have recited poems written by Rup Nath Brahma that created amusement amongst the gathering.
Chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro graced as chief guest on the occasion.
In his speech, Boro remembered contributions and rendering services of Rup Nath Brahma in his days. He said that Rup Nath Brahma’s dedications and upliftment aspects have contributed was endless amongst the Bodos and other down trodden communities in the state. He said that his contribution and dedications will be remembered amongst the citizens.

Among others, Dr Surath Narzary, president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, BTR executive members Ranjit Basumatary, Dr Nilut Swargiary, Ukil Mushahary, Reoreoa Narzihary, MLA Jiran Basumatary, Director of UN Academy, Kokrajhar Krishna Gopal Basumatary, Manjil Rup Bikram Brahma, son of Rup Nath Brahma were prominent attendees on the occasion which was chaired by Pof Gabinda Boro, chairman of the observance committee.

Earlier, citizens of Kokrajhar town and it’s adjoining areas observed the birth anniversary at Pragati Bhawan complex in Kokrajhar.
