KOKRAJHAR, MAR 8: The celebration of international women’s day under the aegis of the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) was concluded on Friday after a two-days programme scheduled being held at the Udalguri College,Puroni Goraibari in Udalguri district.
The celebration saw a wide discussion on the uplift and development as well as women’s empowerment across the society.

As part of the program scheduled, the first day on Thursday, was especially marked with the special delegate session for the women delegates representing different district committees of the students union (ABSU). The special delegate session was inaugurated by Monalisa Daimary, Subject Teacher of Udalguri Higher Secondary School and Education Activist.

During the session, some of the key decisions were taken in connection with the Special Women Delegate Session held at 56th Delegate Convention of ABSU at Golaghat. Where ABSU has taken a resolution to form “Bodo Mother Association” “Boro Bima Goutum” and the adhoc body was formed in the Golaghat Session.
After discussion in this special delegate session at Udalguri College Auditorium ABSU has resolved to form full body with the name as “Bodo Mother Association”(BMA) and in Bodo “Boro Bima Goutum”. This BMA will function within the domain of ABSU to carry out Mission and Vision with all the Missions of ABSU; to work extensively for the social construction of sustainable Bodo Soceity –the Geremsa Boro Hari.

Through the special delegate session several aims and objectives were adopted for the BMA which are included carrying out massively the missions of ABSU with special focus to women and children such as, “Bodofa Mission for Sustainable Change” and “Mission Quality Education Movement”, to make economically, educationally and culturally empowered Bodo women, work to create secure & safe environment for women and children in Bodo Society by eradicating superstition, child marriage, witchcraft practices, trafficking etc..
” To eradicate Physical, Structural Direct or Indirect Violence against women and children. To eradicate substance abuse of Alcohol, Drugs, tobacco, ganza etc. in the Bodo Society.Eradication of
all forms of anti social activities and elements from the Bodo Society. Providing counselling to women, students and children those in stress and destitute. For conducting health & legal awareness amongst the women folk in the Bodo Society.

The structure of the BMA will be in two layers- the central committee level and district level.
The central committee level of the Bodo Mother’s Association (BMA) was formed Lila Basumatary as chief convenor,Bibari Boro, deputy speaker of ABSU as deputy chief convenor along with eight other members.
On the occasion of international women’s day today, ABSU president Dipen Boro hoisted ABSU flag followed by floral tributes to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma and tributes to Gaide -Helena Basumatary on the occasion.

A rally was also carried out to mark the celebration with the theme of total Eradication of injustice against Women, Human Trafficking, Child Marriage & Witch Hunting etc.
Dr. Rashmi Brahma, Assttant Professor of Udalguri College flagged off the rally.
An open discussion was chaired by Lila Basumatary, Chief Convenor BMA.
ABSU president Dipen Boro inaugurated the open discussion. In his speech, Boro has highlighted the issues in the Bodo Society concerning to the women folk to empower economically, educationally and eradicate victimization of women as diani or any other social menace in society. He asserted that BMA will work together with ABSU to carry all the objectives for construction of Bodo Society with the ideal principle of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma for Geremsa Boro Hari.
Dr. Rita Boro, Asstt. Professor of Tangla College & Sahitya Akademi Awardee, graced the occasion as chief guest.
She has highlighted the struggles of women historically to achieve the rights as human being. The recognition of dignity of women at any stage of age and life must be respected and protected. Though it be marriage or any social events or rituals in our society.

During the occasion, Pratima Nandi Narzary, Sahitya Akademi Awardee 2023, Renowned writer, Kunjalata Daimary, International Player (Athletics), Eena Daimary, Owner of Bajwi Hotel, Rowta Renowned Enterpreneur and Mainaoshree Daimary, Youth Sahitya Akademi Awardee-2023 was offered warm welcome and felicitation with traditional Aronai and bouquet.
