Prisoner Serving Life Sentence Escapes from Kokrajhar Jail

KOKRAJHAR,MAR 19: In a major security lapse, a convict prisoner serving life sentence on charges of the POCSO Act escaped from Kokrajhar District Jail on March 16 last. The prisoner, identified as Hazrat Ali (25), a resident of No. 1 Daukhanagar in Chirang district, managed to flee during his duty of cleaning of the jail colony. 

According to reports, the incident took place at around 1:30 PM in broad daylight when the prisoner escaped from the jail premises. Following the escape, the Jail Superintendent lodged a complaint at Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station, and an investigation has been launched by the Kokrajhar police administration.

Following the incident the Jail Superintendent, Robiram Ingti, has been suspended and the charges of Jail Superintendent has now been handed over to Additional District Commissioner Dhruvajyoti Das.

Pertinently this is not the first time that such an incident has occurred at Kokrajhar District Jail in  the past, prisoners have managed to escape multiple times, including one convict who successfully escaped twice.
