KOKRAJHAR,SEP 24: A week-ong national-level workshop on research methodology in social sciences, was successfully concluded on Wednesday at Bodoland University in Kokrajhar which was sponsored by ICSSR-NERC, Shillong.
The event was organised by the Department of Commerce, Bodoland University, Kokrajhar to explore research methodology in social sciences.
The workshop brought together distinguished academicians, researchers, and young scholars from different parts of the country to strengthen research capacity in the field of social sciences, with a special focus on North East India. 55 PhD scholars from the Social Science Stream attended the workshop. The workshop was formally inaugurated by Prof. B.L. Ahuja, Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University, on 16th September 2025. In his inaugural speech, Prof. Ahuja highlighted the importance of applying scientific procedures in research and having thorough knowledge of research methodology. He also emphasised the significance of research in addressing various issues and encouraged research scholars to contribute to society through their work.
Prof. A. Ibemcha Chanu, the convenor of the workshop as well as Dean, Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies, Bodoland University, highlighted the objectives of conducting the workshop.
Over the course of five days, participants engaged in intensive sessions covering fundamentals of research, problem formulation, research design, use of Artificial Intelligence in research, qualitative and quantitative methods, data collection, sampling, literature review, academic writing, publication strategies, data analysis using SPSS and Excel, ethical considerations, and report writing. The program also included interactive group activities, a hands-on field survey, and participant presentations.
Renowned experts in the field of social sciences, including Prof. Joydeep Baruah of KKHSO University, Guwahati, Dr. Sanmoy Mallick of North Bengal University, Darjeeling, Dr. Sunildro Akoijam of North Eastern Hill University, Prof. Subir Sen of Tripura University, Prof. Joy Das of Nagaland University and Prof. Amalesh Bhowal of Assam University Diphu Campus, Prof. Sanghamitra Choudhury, Prof. Pralip Narzary, Dr Arabinda Debnath, Dr Konita Basumatary and Prof. A. Ibemcha Chanu of Bodoland University, contributed their expertise, enriching the learning experience.
The workshop provided an invaluable platform for capacity building, networking, and knowledge exchange, empowering young scholars with the skills necessary for quality research and academic excellence.
The organising committee extends sincere gratitude to all resource persons, participants, and supporting institutions for making this workshop a resounding success.
