KOKRAJHAR,MAY 16: In a significant stride towards enhancing community infrastructure, NTPC Bongaigaon, Salakati inaugurated the renovated Salakati Market Shed on Friday.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Joyanta Basumatary, Member of Parliament(Lok Sabha), Kokrajhar, and Lawrence Islary, MLA, East Kokrajhar, alongside Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon Salakati, Kabita Deka, ACS, Additional District Commissioner, Kokrajhar and senior NTPC officials including Shri Paresh Mathur, AGM (TS); Shri Onkar Nath, AGM (HR); and Sushil Kumar, AGM (CCD). Members of the Salakati Bazar Committee and local residents have also attended the event.
The renovation project, executed under NTPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, was completed at a value of ₹35.89 lakhs. The comprehensive upgrade included the construction of an 8000-litre RCC overhead water tank, cleaning and repair of 200 meters of surrounding drains, refurbishment of toilet blocks with a 500-litre PVC overhead water tank, and structural repairs of three market sheds covering 70 shops. Additional enhancements encompassed PCC flooring of vendor areas and approach pathways, installation of chequered tiles in the fish market zone and toilet block approach, provision of water supply points and piping for fish market shops, and electrification with a 250-amp LT Panel Board, earthing, and cabling for 70 shops. Although the initial plan included four sheds covering 120 shops, three sheds were completed due to site constraints.
In his address, MP Joyanta Basumatary commended NTPC Bongaigaonn Salakati’s dedication to regional development, stating, the renovated market shed is a reflection to NTPC’s commitment to uplifting community infrastructure, directly benefiting local vendors and residents.
Echoing similar sentiments, Shri Lawrence Islary emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in community development, urging local stakeholders to maintain and utilize the facilities responsibly. Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, remarked that NTPC, believes in inclusive growth and the project not only enhances the market’s infrastructure but also reinforces our bond with the community we serve.”
Aligning with the Swachh Bharat Mission, three dustbins were also donated by Shri Joyanta coinciding with the Swachhta Pakhwada to the Salakati Market Committee, promoting cleanliness and responsible waste management.
The Salakati Bazar Committee expressed it’s gratitude to NTPC Bongaigaon,Salakati for addressing a long-standing need, highlighting the positive impact on both hygiene and economic activity in the region.
The event concluded with a collective pledge by all stakeholders to uphold cleanliness and ensure the sustainable use of the newly renovated.
