KOKRAJHAR, JULY 14: Assam cabinet minister for Water Resources department, Pijush Hazarika today made a visit to the Beki (Bwrsi) River banks and embankments along the Manash National Park in Baksa district on Friday.
Minister Hazarika was accompanied by chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro and senior government officials.
Minister has reviewed the rising water levels of the river in view of the release of water from the Kurichu Dam in neighbouring Bhutan country.
Notably, the Bhutan government authority has so far released water from Kurichu Dam which flows towards downstream in Baksa and Barpeta districts of Lower Assam from the Bhutan hills.
Minister Hazarika said that the state government and BTR government is fully prepared necessary steps to ensure safe and safety measures for the citizens in the region.
He informed that all necessary measures are being taken by the state government and government of BTR on a war footing to mitigate the flood situation & relief camps have been set up to ensure the safety of the flood affected citizens.
CEM Pramod Boro while reviewing the rising water levels of the river Beki (Bwrsi) in view of the release of water from the Kurichu Dam in Bhutan, said that necessary measures are being taken by the Govt of BTR on a war footing to mitigate the flood situation & many relief camps have been set up to ensure the safety of the citizens.
“In view of the forewarned release of water from the Kurichu Dam (Bhutan), he and senior government officials inspected the embankments along river Beki (Bwrsi) at Manas today”, he said adding that he has issued instructions to the officials present to undertake immediate reinforcements at vulnerable points along the river bank in Baksa district.
“Our Govt of BTR has been taking proactive measures to prevent the river bank erosion of the Beki/Bwrsi river. This is key for the protection of the rich flora and fauna of Manas National Park and also for the safety of downstream villages of Baksa & Chirang districts of the Bodoland Territorial Region “, Boro added.
