Building stronger democracies through Youth participation: Pramod Boro

KOKRAJHAR, APRIL 21: State Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Irrigation, Ashok Singhal today attended the inaugural session of the Y-20 Talk Series on ‘Youth, Governance and Democracy’ at the Bodofa Cultural Complex, Kokrajhar.

Participating in this special discussion organized with the aim of providing appropriate directions to the youth of the country for empowering them for a bright and strong future, minister Singhal said that the youth are not the future of the country as everyone has said, they are the present of the country.
‘ They are the bridge between the past and the future of the country. The basic foundation of building a strong nation is the youth of the country, which, if not strong and vibrant, then the basic structure of the nation will become thorny. Stating that India is the youngest country in the world with 65 per cent of its citizens under the age of 35 years, he said that the whole world is looking at our country today with deep expectations. Quoting the words of Swami Vivekananda and former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, he urged the new generation of the country to shun negative thinking and devote themselves to positive and creative activities.

Describing India as the mother of the world’s democracy, minister Singhal said that it is a matter of pride for all of us that India has been able to take over as the chairman of the G-20 Group of Nations for the first time when the country is celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence.
The minister said the Y20 seminar was held in Kokrajhar, ‘the city of peace’ in the north-east that was once in the headlines for its terror situation, with the participation of more than 1,500 youths in the programme is the bright sign of the changing New India.
He hoped that this special dialogue, organized in line with the G-20 Summit, will bring together its core stakeholders, policymakers, experts, youth leaders, etc., and will be helpful in democratic values, good governance, and youth empowerment, as well as contribute to India’s sustainable development and progress.

The Day-long Y20 Talk Series was held in three sessions- inaugural dession, plenary session and valedictory session. Similarly, the inaugural session was held under the chairmanship of chief executive nember of Bodoland Territorial Region(BTR), Pramod Boro in the presence of Assam cabinet minister, Ashok Singhal as chief guest and National Spokesperson of BJP and chairman of India Tourism Development Corporation, Sambit Patra.

The plenary session held under the chairmanship of Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Assam cabinet minister for Handloom and Textile department, was attended by eminent industrialist Ullhas Kamath and eminent litterateur-translator Diganta Biswa Sarma.
The valedictory session was held under the chairmanship of Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary with the active participation of Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, Education Advisor to the government of Assam and Dr Anshu Joshi, Assistant Professor of Centre for Canadian, US and Latin American Studies of JNU, New Delhi, including several other eminent personalities and students.

CEM Boro while lauding the organisers for organizing the event in Kokrajhar, said that it is a proud moment for BTR to host the Y20 Talk Series on ‘Youth, Governance & Democracy’ in Kokrajhar.
He has emphasized that the Y20 talk series is a way for building stronger democracies through Youth participation across the country.He has urged the young generations to be dedicated while building an integrated and uplift of the society.
