KOKRAJHAR, SEP 1: The journey of Medical Education academic curriculum for MBBS in Kokrahar Medical College & Hospital has been commenced from Friday amidst witnessing a huge gathering at the medical college & hospital complex, Beswargaon in Kokrajhar.
Assam Health & Family welfare department minister, Keshab Mahanta and the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro have lit the lamp to inaugurate the commencement of the first batch of MBBS in the presence of Assam cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma in Kokrajhar medical college & hospital.
The first batch with 87 students (girls-38 and boys-49) of KMCH were felicitated by Health minister and CEM (BTR) Pramod Boro.
Principal of the KMCH Dr Atul Chandra Boro while giving the welcome address, thanked the guests, senior citizens, parents and guardians of the students for being part in the historic opening of new academic session of MBBS course. He has expressed his hopeful that the students of first batch of KMCH will achieve and shine in life. He called upon the students to keep their health fit and strong to success in their aims of being Medical practitioner.
In his speech, state Health minister Keshab Mahanta said it was a historic day for the people of Assam as the state has witnessed the ceremonial inauguration of first batch of MBBS in three new Medical Colleges- Nagaon, Nalbari and Kokrajhar Medical College today. He said the state had set up 15 Medical Colleges in Assam of which three Colleges have opened academic session of 1st batch from today. He said there had been shortage of doctors in the hospitals across the state but now these problems are being overcome after setting up of more Medical Colleges in Assam under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. He also said within the next few years, the crisis of doctors in Assam will be over. He further said more Medical Colleges are going to be established in the state.
Mahanta said that three new Medical Colleges in Assam had started academic session of 1st batch on a single day. He said the Medical Colleges in Assam started by John Berry White in Dibrugargh and to commemorate his dedication the government of Assam is going to establish another 200 bedded hospital in his name. He also said Gauhati Medical College and Hospital was established in 1960 and Silchar Medical College came in 1968 and now Assam has witnessed opening of 12 Medical Colleges and 1500 Medical students will pass out every year. He also said Tinsukia Medical College would be set up next year followed by more Medical Colleges in Charaideo, Biswanath, Bongaigaon. He further said the government of Assam was looking for establishing 24 Medical Colleges in Assam. He hailed chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for this noble initiative.
The new students were administered pledge on the profession Medical practitioners.
CEM Pramod Boro said it was a momentous day especially for the people of Bodoland region and lower Assam as the KMCH has started the academic session of first batch. He said the KMCH was completed beautifully in a fast manner. He said the state has got new Medical colleges in Assam and KMC is one of that which will produce many Medical professions in the days to come. He said the KMCH will provide best services to the people of lower Assam and BTC besides producing quality doctors.
He said that he Kokrajhar Medical College & Hospital is a cornerstone of BTR’s healthcare infrastructure, healing ailing citizens with dedication & commitment. He urged the budding doctors to continue this tradition of compassion & excellence, never saying “No” to a patient.

This is a great milestone reached under the visionary leadership of our Karmayogi CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Dangoriya, and excellent execution of Shri Keshab Mahanta Ji”,Boro added.
Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma said it was a historic moment for the people. He said the KMCH became a reality at the initiative of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. He said Medical College was one of the Prime demands of Bodoland movement and today it has come in to fore. The first batch of the KMCH will be the bench mark and their name will remain in the history of the college.
Among others, MLAs Lawrence Islary, Jiron Basumatary, BTR EMs Reoreoa Narzihary, Arup Kumar Dey,senior government officials were present in the event.
