A Journey of Identity, Resilience, and Progress
Kokrajhar, July 1: The 43rd District Day of Kokrajhar was celebrated today with deep pride and reflection by the District Administration, commemorating over four decades of resilience, transformation, and cultural identity. The event, held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the District Commissioner, brought together officials, educators, social leaders, and citizens to honour the district’s remarkable journey.
District Commissioner Masanda M. Pertin, IAS, in her address, spoke about the district’s evolution and enduring identity. “Kokrajhar stands as a testament to resilience. Despite numerous changes; administrative, political, and demographic, our district has held firm to its distinct character and spirit.” she said. She called upon residents to light diyas outside their homes and illuminate government buildings as a symbolic tribute to the occasion.
Dr. Banabina Brahma, Associate Professor at Kokrajhar Government College, offered a historical reflection, noting that Kokrajhar was officially declared a district on July 1, 1983, during the tenure of Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia. Prior to that, it functioned as a sub-division under Goalpara, during the leadership of Chief Minister Bimala Prasad Chaliha. “This day marks not just an administrative milestone, but a historic assertion of our distinct cultural and political identity,” she remarked.
Social worker Sarbeswar Basumatary echoed these sentiments, stating, “Kokrajhar becoming a district was a milestone for the region. Today, it stands tall with a unique cultural identity and a strong sense of community.”
SDO (C) Gossaigaon, Mridul Shivhare, ADCs Subhram Aditya Bora, Wadiul Islam, Kabita Deka, Assistant Commissioners, along with officials and staff were also present on the occasion.
As part of the celebration, citizens were encouraged to light lamps at home, turning the district into a beacon of heritage and hope. The programme concluded with a collective reaffirmation of Kokrajhar’s commitment to inclusive development, cultural pride, and community-led progress.
