Four Poachers Arrested in Bijni

KOKRAJHAR, JULY 16: Police officials have apprehended four suspected poachers, including a woman, along with a significant cache of wildlife body parts and hunting tools during a late-night raid on Tuesday in Bijni of Chirang district.

Acting on specific intelligence, police conducted coordinated searches at four houses located in Kumarshali, No. 2 Choto Ladanguri, and Formaishali villages under Bijni police station. The raids led to the recovery of several body parts of wild animals, believed to have been hunted and kept for illegal sale.

The arrested individuals have been identified as: Pradip Narzary alias Bhergo (45) of No. 2 Choto Ladanguri; Samar Singh Basumatary (52) of Kumarsali; Kancha Daimary alias Budang (40) and Binashri Basumatary (40).

From Pradip Narzary’s residence, police recovered three iron traps used for hunting wild animals, Four large wild boar tusks, A pistol grip, Iron pipes suspected to be used in homemade firearms, Metal bullets and springs, A broken trigger and barrel, Suspected explosives, electric drilling machine and 18 toolboxes used in gun-making.

From Samar Singh Basumatary’s house, the following were recovered a suspected 3-inch piece of elephant tusk, Bones of wild animals, Five suspected animal teeth, a suspected tiger’s tongue and fur, a portion of pangolin scales, 20 porcupine quills
Several dried and unidentified animal parts
The arrested persons were taken to Bijni Police Station along with the seized items.
