KOKRAJHAR, MAY 17: Former Assam cabinet minister of Education & Revenue department, and noted social thinker, Thaneswar Boro, breathed his last early this morning at 7.05 am at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
Boro was undergoing treatment at GMCH due to severe heart condition since few days. Earlier, he was admitted to Swasti Hospital, Rangia on May 9. However, later he was shifted to the ICU of GMCH and breathed his last today morning. He was 86.
Boro was former president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and held as professor in B Barooah College in Guwahati in his life.
Boro was regarded as one of prominent intellectually figures of the state, and social thinker in the field of social development and welfare in the state of Assam. He was also well known writer and held as vice president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha besides rendering services for bringing healthy welfare and uplift of the Bodo language and literature in his days.
The chief executive member (CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Region and UPPL president, Pramod Boro, Assam cabinet minister, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) leaders offered their floral tributes to Thaneswar Boro as last respect on the lifeless body.

He was a stalwart leader of the state of Assam, and he will forever remain an enduring icon of inspiration for the citizens of the state.He said that the state loss a great leader with his demise.
” I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of former Education & Revenue minister, Shri Thaneswar Boro. His unwavering commitment to education and his dedicated service to the people of the state of Assam, have left an indelible mark on the state. His contribution to the field of education and public service will always be remembered’, Boro added.
Assam cabinet minister, and Sahitya Akademi award winner, Urkhao Gwra Brahma has expressed his condolences and deep mourning on the demise of Thaneswar Boro.
” Upon hearing the news of the passing of Thaneswar Boro, former education and revenue minister of Assam, I rushed to GMCH. He had been admitted due to a severe heart condition. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
I held him in the highest regard for his vast experience and vibrant character. His distinguished career included serving as the president of the AGP, as a three-time MLA from Rangia, and as vice president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha. Today, we mourn the loss of an extraordinary individual. May his soul rest in peace”, Brahma said.
The Bodo Sahitya Sabha president, Dr Surath Narzary, ABSU president Dipen Boro, several social organisations and students unions have also extended their condolences and mourning on the demise noted social thinker and ex minister, Thaneswar Boro.
Meanwhile, the ruling United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) also extended deep mourning and condolences on the demise of Thaneswar Boro, former education minister, government of Assam.

A condolence meeting of the UPPL legislators was also held in Guwahati,and observed a solemn silence as a mark of respect to ex vice president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha & former Education minister of Assam, Thaneswar Boro, who left for his heavenly abode today.
The chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region,and UPPL president, Pramod Boro, deputy CEM of BTR, Govinda Chandra Basumatary,all legislators were present in the program.
