Field Directors’ Meet of 12 Tiger Reserves from Eastern India begins at Manas National Park

KOKRAJHAR,MAY 28: A two-day conference of the Field Directors from 12 tiger reserves in Eastern India began from Wednesday at Bansbari, Manas National Park in Baksa district.

In connection with the upcoming tiger census, a crucial meeting was held to discuss preparations with the Field Directors and Deputy Directors from tiger reserves located in Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Mizoram, and others. Out of the 12 reserves, representatives from 11 participated in the session, informed Dr. C. Ramesh, Field Director of Manas National Park and Manas Tiger Project.

Dr. Ramesh mentioned that the initial phase of the tiger census will begin in July. He stated that necessary strategies and initiatives have been initiated for the smooth conduct of the tiger census.He said that concern authorities are so far prepared for the initiative.

“We will need to train the staff thoroughly, prepare data sheets, and ensure the groundwork is ready. The entire process will take about a year to complete,” he said.

The tiger census is conducted every four years. The last census was completed in 2022, and the upcoming one is scheduled for 2026. The compiled national data will be officially released in June 2029 on Global Tiger Day.
