Community fishing seemed like festivity in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, NOV 1: Citizens in large numbers are seen busy on community fishing along the Longa River Irrigation site near Ramfalbill since early morning in lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.

The Longa Irrigation Sluice gate has released the river water every year on November 1 and hence peoples from different districts of the lower Assam districts are coming here for fishing. Today, the river water was released early morning 3 am and peoples in huge crowded thronged at the river site.
The river site has seemed like a festivity as all sections of peoples are gathered to fish out fishes on the river with fishing materials, like net, Koloi, Polo, Jekhai, Borde etc which had created amusement and entertaining of fishing.

The Longa River is a river stream of Agriculture farming sectors in the greater Serfanguri area under Irrigation department, and subsequently it has been taking initiative for harvesting waters for the farmers.
The waters from neighbouring Bhutan has also harvests on the river and today waters along the river opened up where huge fishes are harvesting.

Thousand of peoples from all walks of life from different areas thronged at the River site since early morning for fishing after the Longa River Sluice Irrigation opened the water through irrigation project. The river bank looked like festivity situation.
Peoples got huge fishes like Borali, Shool, Bami, Kushia by Jakoi, Dura and some other fishing items which seemed like a festivity situation along the river.

“Peoples expresses their happiness followed getting opportunity for mass fishing every year here at the Longa River”, said a senior resident a Serfanguri village.
‘I got huge fishes including Borali, Shool, Magur in the fishing. I reached at the river bank in the early morning as the water was released by 3:am and since then huge peoples come down at the river for fishing’, said Buthoram Brahma of Dotma village.

The river bank saw huge gathering with peoples cutting across caste, creed and language from near and far arrived to fish out on today’s day, said Bhabesh Chandra Chetry, a resident of Kokrajhar.
‘I am very happy with getting opportunity to be part in the community fishing and collected different types of fishes since morning.This time peoples participation has been seeing more than previous occasions’, said Swmbwr Basumatary of Gossaigaon.
