KOKRAJHAR, APRIL 5: In a proactive move ahead of the monsoon season, the Chirang district administration held a Thematic Group Meeting for Flood Action Plan on Saturday.
The meeting took place at the District Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Kajalgaon and was chaired by Arup Choudhury, Additional District Commissioner (ADC) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
Presiding over the session, ADC Choudhury stressed the critical importance of early preparedness and seamless coordination among departments to mitigate the impact of potential flooding.
The District Project Officer (DPO) of DDMA, Dhanjeet Das, presented a comprehensive overview of the Flood Action Plan. The plan lays out a coordinated, multi-departmental strategy, with responsibilities distributed based on thematic focus areas. These include relief camp management; continuity of essential services such as health, water and sanitation, education, and Women and Child Development services; critical infrastructure preparedness; and effective reporting and damage assessment mechanisms.
Particular emphasis was placed on the use of the DRIMS portal, which will serve as a vital tool for accurate and timely reporting of damages and monitoring of response activities. In addition, officials announced that community awareness campaigns will be conducted across all administrative circles before the onset of the monsoon.
To maintain momentum and ensure the effective execution of the plan, regular follow-up and review meetings will be scheduled. The meeting saw the participation of Bijni Circle Officer, Field Officers, and heads of various departments from across the district, all reaffirming their commitment to a coordinated and resilient flood response.
