KOKRAJHAR,DEC 11: The Information and Public Relations department, government of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) organized a ground-breaking awareness campaign on topic of “The Impacts of Social Media and Cyber Security Threats for Students” was held at the Kokrajhar Girls’ H.S. School on Wednesday.
This pioneering initiative by the BTR IPR Department aims to educate students and the younger generation about the responsible use of social media and the potential risks associated with cybercrime.
Inaugurating the campaign, BTC executive member (EM) for Information and Public Relations department, Dr. Nilut Swargiary, urged the students to use mobile phones and the internet wisely, acknowledging both their advantages and pitfalls. He underlined the importance of guiding the younger generation toward the right path through such awareness campaigns. “This initiative reflects the BTR Government’s commitment to providing students with opportunities and right direction under the dynamic leadership of CEM Pramod Boro,” he stated. “The BTR Government is dedicated to building a strong human resource base, as persistent effort is the key to eliminating poverty and achieving progress.”, he added. Dr. Swargiary further informed that the campaign would be conducted across all five districts of the BTR within this month.
EM Dr. Swargiary also praised the remarkable achievements of students, particularly the girls who secured top positions in the recently declared APSC CCE results. He encouraged students to persevere with determination, emphasizing that clarity of goals, hard work, and resilience are essential to overcoming challenges and attaining success.
In his address BTC Joint Secretary, Ractim Buragohain encouraged the students to practice conscious control over their thoughts and reactions, enabling them to make informed decisions in both the digital realm and their personal lives.
The programme featured valuable insights from several experts, including Prof. Pranab Kumar Singh of CIT, Kokrajhar, DSP Madhu Kakoti in cyber safety and social media usage. They provided valuable insights on the importance of maintaining a secure digital presence and the critical need for students to stay vigilant online. The programme was conducted by the Adviser of SEED, BTR Ranjan K Baruah.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Zahid Ahmed Tapadar, RO cum CHD of BTR IPRD, emphasized the importance of integrating the lessons learned from the campaign into daily life to foster responsible digital behavior.
It is to be noted that, this is the first time in Assam that a government department has taken such a step for the students, making it a unique and pathbreaking effort. Neither any other Sixth Scheduled Council nor the State Government has introduced such a comprehensive program aimed at equipping students with the skills to safely navigate the digital world.
