KOKRAJHAR, AUG 28: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday in between government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and North East Regional Agriculture Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC), government of India aiming for setting up five solar-powered cold storage units in the districts of Bodoland Territorial Region.

The MoU was assigned at a programme held at the BTC Secretariat, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar, in the presence of chief executive member (CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro; BTC Secretary of Agriculture department, Amar Jyoti Barman & Managing Director of North East Regional Agriculture Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC), Rajiv Ashok.
The MoU was signed with the objective of setting up five solar-powered cold storage units in all the five districts of the Bodoland region.

The actionable as envisioned in the MoU include new technologies to extend the shelf life of the perishable produce generated by agricultural activities in the region. The setting up of the cold storage units is expected to reduce dependence on electricity & enhancing durability of the products.

CEM Pramod Boro while welcoming the MoU has emphasized that NERAMAC’s involvement further strengthened the efforts of BTC to align development activities to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
He also mentioned that the initiative is going to benefit 5000 farmers of the region and strengthen the BTR govt’s flagship programmes of Lakhpati Mahila Mission & Bodofa Livelihood Mission.
