Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma’s 69th birth day celebrated as ‘Students’ Day’

KOKRAJHAR, MAR 31: The 69th birth day of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) was celebrated as the Students’ Day (Chatra Divosh) across the state of Assam on Monday in a befitting manner.

In Kokrajhar,the birth anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma was organised at the Thulungapuri, Dotma,the burial place amidst a well attended gathering of students and citizens.The event was organised by the ABSU and Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) to recall contributions and dedication of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma towards the welfare and uplift of the Bodo and other down trodden communities across the state.

In his speech, the president of the ABSU Dipen Boro said the Bodos will always remember his ideology and philosophy who dreamt for the building of vibrant Bodo society. He said Bodofa worked and dedicated for the equal rights and justice for the downtrodden communities. He also said Bodofa took a key role to establish the Bodo a master race of the world who worked with his holistic vision. The Bodos will stick to its stand yo fulfill the dream of Bodofa UN Brahma.

Boro said the government of BTR had been giving due respect to Bodofa, launched Bodofa Super-50 mission for the students, Bodofa Livelihood Mission for Sustainable Development for the growth and development of the Bodos. He thanked the Union Home Minister Amit Shah who recently announced to dedicate an important road in New Delhi in the name of Bodofa UN Brahma. He hoped that Bodofa’s statue will come up in various parts of the world.

In his speech, Minister UG Brahma said Thulungapuri, the burial place of Bodofa in Dotma had been being developed as a state of the art centre of excellence. He said great persons got birth from time to time to reform the communities. Giving example of Sankardeva, Bhupen Hazarika, Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, he said Bodofa UN Brahma was also one of the great genius who dedicated his life for the wellbeing of the downtrodden communities. He said the government of India was giving due respect to Bodofa recognizing his selfless dedication for the downtrodden communities.

The programme was also attended by MLA Lawrence Islary, BTC EM Ranjit Basumatary, Registrar of Bodoland University, Dr. Subung Basumatary, Secretary of BTC Phami Brahma, ex-MCLA Jyatirindra Brahma, Chairperson of Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) Pratibha Brahma and others.
Earlier in the morning, the president of the ABSU Dipen Boro hoisted the organizational flag while Minister UG Brahma paid floral tribute to Bodofa at his statue followed by paying homage to Bodofa at his tomb by the Chairman of UN Brahma Trust Dr. Dimacha Dwibrang Mwshahary while BTC EM Ranjit Basumatary planted sapling.
In Guwahati,the Students’ Day was celebrated with a day-long programme scheduled being held at the KBR auditorium of Cotton University.

The event was organised by the Government of Bodoland Territorial Region, in association with department of Education, Govt of Assam to mark the birth anniversary of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma.

Assam Education Minister, Dr Ranoj Pegu graced the occasion as chief guest.Pramod Boro,the chief executive member of BTR,Vice chancellor of Cotton University, Prof Ramesh Chandra Deka,noted journalist Prasanta Rajguru were graced as special guests on the occasion.
Dr Pegu recalled the contributions and sacrifice of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, who laid his whole life towards the uplift and welfare of Bodos and other down trodden communities across the state.He was a follower of non violence and believer of democratic system.He stated that the Bodo society today reached at this juncture after a bold leadership contribution of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma.
CEM of Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro stated that the government of BTR is committed to keep alive of philosophy and ideology of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma,and accordingly the birthday was celebrated as students’ day across the state.

Among others, BKWAC deputy CEM, Romio P Narzary, BKWAC chairman Anil Basumatary, noted journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap, BTR principal secretary Akash Deep, BTR executive member Sajal Singha were present in the event.
