KOKRAJHAR, JULY 9: A special discussion on the matter of draft delimitation published was held at the Auditorium Hall of Barama College in Baksa district on Sunday which was convened by the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) which saw a well attended by organisation leaders and intellectuals from different areas of the region.
Notably, various Bodo organizations and intellectuals have demanded creation of Udalguri Parliament Constituency within coterminous legislative assembly constituencies (LACs) of Bodoland Territorial Region only, increase the ST reserved LACs in Bodoland region up to 10.
Altogether 13 organizations including Bodo national and political parties- Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), Dularai Bodo Harimu Afad (DBHA), ABWWF, BCAA, BDTA, ABPTA, BYWF, AAPCBTR, AATS, ExNDFBUF, UPPL, BPF, BDTA & UCHPCDC) including the community leaders and intellectuals participated in the discussion.
Taking the opinion of all the party and organization leaders present in the meeting, the house has resolved some vital issues for joint initiative to be represented with the Election Commission of India and submission of memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam.
The special discussion held with the Bodo national organizations and political parties in presence of community leaders and intellectuals welcome the keeping of status quo the Kokrajhar Parliamentary ST reserved seat and the allocation of 15 Assembly seats in Bodoland region.
The meeting reacted strongly to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for not considering the demands made by Bodo national organisations & political parties for creation of Udalguri Parliament Constituency with coterminous LACs of Bodoland Territorial Region and enhancement of reserved LACs for ST in Bodoland Territorial Region.
The house also highlighted that the Bodos in Gohpur and Sonitpur district and other areas of Assam must be kept intact with the LACs instead of bifurcating to microscopic minority.
The house has also unanimously resolved to represent to the Election Commission with joint signatures of 13 organizations, community leaders and intellectuals on the key demands which are included creation of Udalguri Parliament Constituency within coterminous LACs of BTR only, increase of ST reserved LACs in BTR up to 10 ST reserved seats, keeping intact Bodo dominated areas in the draft delimitation of LACs in Assam without bifurcation in microscopic population.
ABSU president Dipen Boro while highlighting about the discussion, said that the discussion have emphasized for creation of Udalguri parliamentary constituency within the LACs of BTR only and increase of LACs reserved seats in Bodoland region. He said the discussion resolved to represent the ECI to put pressurise on the creation of Udalguri parliamentary constituency within coterminous LACs of BTR only, increase of ST reserved LACs in BTR up to 10 ST reserved seats, keeping intact Bodo dominated areas in the draft delimitation of LACs in Assam without bifurcation in microscopic population.
