KOKRAJHAR,MAY 18: The 62nd Bodo Bijwng Saan (Bodo Medium Day) was observed on Sunday (May 18) with vibrant celebrations across the districts of Assam, commemorating a landmark journey in Bodo educational history.
Notably,the Bodo medium was introduced as medium of instruction on 18th May, 1963 for facilitating Bodo medium education for lower primary school amongst the citizens in the state,and since then the day has been marking as Bodo medium day every year on the day.
In Kokrajhar, the Kokrajhar District Committee of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha organized a day-long program at the Karigaon High School premises to mark the occasion in a befitting manner.
It’s was on this day on May 18, 1963, Bodo was declared the medium of instruction in lower primary schools in Bodo-dominated areas of the then undivided Goalpara district, by then-chief minister of Assam Bimala Prasad Chaliha.
The celebration began with the hoisting of the Sabha flag by Bijuel Kumar Basumatary, President of the Kokrajhar District Bodo Sahitya Sabha, followed by floral tributes to the martyrs of the language movement.
The open session was graced by Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Dr Surath Narzary, Kokrajhar MLA Lawrence Islary, and several other dignitaries and community leaders.
Dr Surath Narzary has extended his warm greetings and best wishes to all citizens on the occasion of Bodo Bijwng Saan, said that the day is very much important to recall the contribution and dedications of the Bodo leaders and authors who had contributed their dedication and service’s towards the uplift and development of the Bodo medium education and literature.He has said that today the Bodo Sahitya Sabha and entire Bodo community celebrated the day with befitting programme scheduled across the state of Assam.
In Chirang, the Bodo Sahitya Sabha district and several primary committees have organised the Bodo Bijwng Saan at various places and hold discussions towards the welfare and uplift of the Bodo medium education.
Several district committees of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha across the state of Assam including Udalguri,Baksa,Karbi Anglong carried out a day long program scheduled to mark the glorious 62 year journey of the Bodo medium education on it’s existence in the state.
Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region has extended his warm greetings to the Bodo community as well citizens on the happy occasion of Bodo medium day being organised today.
