Baukhungri Festival witnessed hill trekking, cycling competitions in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, APRIL 12: The 11th edition of the Baukhungri Festival,the biggest festival in Bodoland Territorial Region has been kicked start from Friday with two-day program scheduled along the Baukhungri Hill Harinaguri.

The festival has been seen attraction with holding of traditional folk culture, indigenous sports and local food traditions at the Harinaguri which was organised by government of Bodoland Territorial Region( BTR) and Tourism department that marking the celebration of Rongjali Bwisagu with witnessing of hill trekking on the last day of Choitra month on April 13.

On the first day of the event today, a hill trekking competition for male & female category was held which was flagged off at the Harinaguri High School playground.

In the male category,Puran Rai(Sikkim),Pradip Mahato(West Bengal) and Vivek Chetry (West Bengal)were adjusted as first,second and third spot respectively.

In the female category,Sabina Rai(West Bengal), Shyamali Singh(West Bengal) and Madhu Rai(Uttar Pradesh) were spotted as first, second and third respectively.

In the mountain cycling, Alvindarison Winniang(Meghalaya ), Alancemayer Lyngdoh Nanglait(Meghalaya ) and Burlungbuthur Narzary(Bodoland ) were spotted in first, second and third respectively in the men category.In the women category, Phymai Kyndait(Meghalaya), Bhasati Saikia(Assam ) and Rwisumwi Bala Basumatary(Bodoland ) were adjusted as first, second and third spot respectively.

The events gave been created amusement of cultural demonstration representing different communities,and sports competitions amongst the participants.
A mass hill trekking along the Baukhungri Hills will be witnessed on Saturday where peoples cutting across the communities are thronging to attend the mega event.
Several competitions amongst the categories of male & female are also organised which are included mountain bike cycling competition, hills trekking competition, indigenous games & sports competition, showcasing of traditional food items,and cultural demonstrations representing different communities.

The organising committee members of the festival are seen busy while discharging their duty and responsibilities to meet a healthy smooth successful of the mega festival event.
Remarkably, the festival is regarded as a biggest festival in Bodoland region which has been marking the celebration of Rongjali Bwisagu on the last day of Choitra month with the highlighting about the completions like mountain bike cycling, hill trekking and Bwisagu dance competition, traditional food preparation of Gwkha-Gwkhwi with hundred herbs and Jwo bidwi competition during the event.

The winners of the completions would be awarded cash prizes,and gifts.
Bodoland University Registrar,Dr Subung Basumatary, NRL independent director Sandeep Pradhan, AFA secretary Dr Sangrang Brahma were graced as guests on the first day of the festival.
