Witnessed hill trekking, cycling competitions
KOKRAJHAR, APRIL 16: The 12th edition of the Baukhungri Festival,the biggest festival in Bodoland Territorial Region was concluded on Monday with three days colourful programme scheduled along the Baukhungri Hill, Harinaguri in Kokrajhar.
The festival was saw an attraction with holding of traditional folk culture, indigenous sports and local food traditions at the Harinaguri which was organised by government of Bodoland Territorial Region( BTR) and Tourism department that marking the celebration of Rongjali Bwisagu with witnessing of hill trekking on the last day of Choitra month on April 14.
The event gained it’s mass participation cutting across the communities from different states of the country.
The concluding day witnessed a prize distribution ceremony where competition winners were awarded cash prize and gifts from the organising committee amidst huge gathering of festival visitors.
On the first day of the event, a hill trekking competition for male & female category was held which was flagged off at the Harinaguri High School playground where hundreds of participants participated.
Sabina Rai,Shyamali Singh (West Bengal) and Sangmir Terongpi (Karbi Anglong) were adjusted first, second and third spot in the women’s hills trekking competition respectively.
Vivek Chetry(West Bengal),Lapynkhraw Thabah and Jemon Makri(Meghalaya) were spotted first, second and third in the men’s hills trekking competition respectively.
A cycling competitions both for men and women were organised.
The events have also been created amusement of cultural demonstration representing different communities,and sports competitions amongst the participants.
A mass hill trekking along the Baukhungri Hills witnessed on Monday where peoples cutting across the communities were thronged to attend the mega event.
Several competitions amongst the categories of male & female also organised which are included mountain bike cycling competition, hills trekking competition, indigenous games & sports competition, showcasing of traditional food items,and cultural demonstrations representing different communities.
The organising committee members of the festival are seen busy while discharging their duty and responsibilities to meet a healthy smooth successful of the mega festival event.
Remarkably, the festival is regarded as a biggest festival in Bodoland region which has been marking the celebration of Rongjali Bwisagu on the last day of Choitra month with the highlighting about the completions like mountain bike cycling, hill trekking and Bwisagu dance competition, traditional food preparation of Gwkha-Gwkhwi with hundred herbs and Jwo bidwi competition during the event.
A mass hill trekking event also witnessed where sea of peoples was seen along the Baukhungri Hill.
BTR executive member, Daobaisa Boro,ex BTR executive member Reoreoa Narzihary, Bodo Sahitya Sabha president, Dr Surath Narzary, and several dignataries were present in the closing ceremony and handed over the prizes amongst the competition winners.
