KOKRAJHAR, JULY 4: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has demanded that the flood issue in the state of Assam must be declared as National problem,and urged the government of India as well government of Assam to take bold step towards the solving the flood problem with immediate measures.
In a press statement,the ABSU president Dipen Boro and general secretary Khanindra Basumatary,on Thursday stated that the monsoon of 2024 is not at ease for the inhabitants of flood front areas and foothills of Himalayan region. All Bodo Students Union is aware that there are large numbers of villages across Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and Assam state due to this situation many people are displaced and sheltered in different relief camps.
Since Assam is frequented by floods every year thereby bringing loss to farmers, crops, livestock, assets and properties etc and due to incessant rain since last 15 days in the state of Assam and Bodoland region river Brahmaputra, Barak, Kopili and many more tributaries are flowing above its danger zone. For which a large number of flood, erosion, landslides have taken lives of 44 people till date and lakhs of people have been sheltering in relief camps. Thus, the All Bodo Students Union demand and appeal to the government of India and Assam, to declare Assam flood as National problem and to take up measure for restoration of embankment, erosion by granting central packages, taki up all possible measures in rescue operation, distribution of relief and rehabilitation and compensation to the victim family.
The students union demand for early alarming by the district administration before situation going into worst for the possible danger during rain and flood.
The students union express it’s condolences to those who have lost lives due to flood and government must provide them special grant to the bereaved families,the statement added.
