KOKRAJHAR,JAN 1: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU ) has expressed it’s wishes for 2025 to mark for a successful implementation of the historic third Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Peace Accord signed on 27th January in 2020 and significant advancements in the quality of education, particularly in mother-tongue medium schools, through the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
In a press statement,ABSU president Dipen Boro and general secretary Khanindra Basumatary, extends it’s warm greetings to the people of Assam and the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) for the New Year 2025. Tqhe students union prays that the almighty blesses the state with peace, prosperity,
and happiness for all its citizens in days to come ahead.
” The ABSU wishes for 2025 to mark the successful implementation of the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord and significant advancements in the quality of education, particularly in mother-tongue medium schools, through the
effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. We urge the Government of Assam to address the challenges faced by Bodo medium schools, including the appointment of sufficient teachers for both elementary and secondary education”,the students union leaders said.
” We also call upon the state government to fulfill its commitment to the provincialisation of venture schools as stipulated in clause 6.3 of the 3rd Bodo Accord. We also urge the government to implement policies aimed at eliminating school dropouts in remote and underdeveloped areas in the State.
Given the concerning rise in educated unemployment, ABSU appeals to the State, Central, and BTR
Governments to create additional employment opportunities for youth in 2025. We also encourage young people to pursue entrepreneurship and self-employment as viable career options.
To address the recurring devastation caused by floods and erosion in Assam, ABSU calls on both the central and state governments to adopt comprehensive long-term and short-term strategies to minimise loss of life and property”.
The students union also urges the Government of India and the Government of Assam to expedite the implementation of the key provisions of the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord, as these measures have the potential to usher in a new era of peace and prosperity in the region. With violence now eradicated from the Bodoland region and the cessation of conflicts between the Boro and Non-Boro communities, ABSU calls on the 3.5 million people of BTR to remain united and sustain the peace in the BTR and across Assam.
In accordance with the spirit of the Peace Accord, we further urge the Government of India and the Government of Assam to release all former NDFB members who have completed over 14 years of incarceration
and withdraw the charges against them.
ABSU envisions 2025 as a year free from violence, marked by harmony and coexistence in diversity. We appeal to all citizens of BTR and Assamqq to reject violence and hatred, and to respect the rights of individuals and communities, in line with the principles of the Indian Constitution. Together, let us work towards building a more inclusive and developed society”,the students union leaders added.
