ABSU to stage sit in demonstration on 8 May

KOKRAJHAR, MAY 3: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has declared to stage 3-hour sit in demonstration in every district headquarters of Bodoland Territorial Region as well Assam state as a whole on 8th May on demand of various issues including village notification of the Boro-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) administered area, constituency formation, conduct of election and increase of the fund for council for the 2023-24 financial years for speedy development and to resolve socio-political issues, education and economic development of the Bodo people in Assam.

In a press statement today, ABSU general secretary Khanindra Basumatary, said that as per the decision of the executive meeting of the All Bodo Students Union held on 12th April last held at Mayuri Guest House, Manas National Park, Baksa the students union declared for 3-hour dharna on 8th May 2023, at every district headquarters of Assam and BTR, KAAC on demand of Village notification of the Boro-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) administered area, Constituency formation, conduct of election and increase of the fund for council for the 2023-24 financial years for speedy development and to resolve socio-political issues, education and economic development of the Bodo people in Assam.

The students union appeals to the government of Assam and government of India to implement clause 5.1 of the memorandum of settlement (MoS) MoS of BTR Accord in letter and spirit that signed on 27th January, 2020.
The formation of BKWAC has already been elapsed 3 years without election and constituency. The students union demands for upgradation of full-fledged council and to resolve the aspiration of the Bodo people living outside the Sixth Schedule in Assam.
