ABSU suspends it’s protest agitation in Bodoland University

KOKRAJHAR, OCT 11: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has been suspended it’s ongoing protest agitation till 18th October of this month on demand of removal of Prof Laishram Ladusingh, the vice chancellor of Bodoland University after a proposal reached from Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government authority to arrange a meeting with the Governor of Assam and Chancellor of Bodoland University soon where delegates of BTC government and ABSU will jointly are participating the meeting.

In a press statement issued to the media on Wednesday, the ABSU president Dipen Boro and general secretary, Khanindra Basumatary said that the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) with the ongoing agitation at Bodoland University until yesterday 10th October(Tuesday) there has been continuous protest darna programme on demanding for the removal of accused Prof Laishram Ladusingh, the Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University.

On the request of the Principal Secretary of BTC through a letter and call for negotiation on 10th October itself
the meeting was held with BTC government in presence of Pramod Boro, CEM of BTC; where Akash Deep IAS, Principal Secretary and Amarjyoti Barman, Secretary Education Department were present. The talk was held regarding the issue of corrupt vice chancellor as ABSU has demanded for his removal from the office by the Governor and Chancellor of the Bodoland University being accused under the Vigilance Police Station case no. 01/2022 under Sections 120(B)/420/409 IPC, read with Section 13(a) (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. as investigated by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption Assam and CM’s special vigilance Government of Assam.

The allegation as per FIR is that the petitioner had ordered lots of construction works to one M/s R D Enterprise of Rs. 19, 55,984/- for the construction of market complex, drains, construction of drains culvert etc. of Bodoland University without maintaining proper procedure and tender. The second allegation is that the Finance Officer, namely, Prof. E Nixon Singh has been appointed under favoritism, as he has not fulfilled all the criteria as per the advertisement Rules. It is also alleged in the FIR that one Dr Nilkamal Singh , Assistant Professor of Department of History of Bodoland University has been suspended, but he has been getting full salary during his suspension period.

The complainant also alleged in the FIR that one Melody Thangjam has taken admission in Bodoland
University for Ph.D without appearing in any entrance examination.
The students union leaders said that the meeting has resulted to take strong steps for initiating to give justice into the demand of the students union soon which are included the BTC government from the Principal Secretary will write to the Governor Secretariat for resolution of the issues raised by ABSU.

The meeting with the Governor of Assam and Chancellor of Bodoland University will be arranged soon and BTC govt. and ABSU will jointly delegate in the meeting with Governor once the date is fixed and keeping the request to suspend the agitation due to NAAC visit at Bodoland University, ABSU has agreed to suspend the ongoing agitation till 18th October 2023, soon after the agitation will resume from 19th October 2023 from 10 AM onwards.
