KOKRAJHAR, JUNE 12: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) observed the 37th Bodoland Mungkhlong San (Bodoland Martyrs Day) , and the special session of the students union on Wednesday across the districts of the state of Assam with befitting programme scheduled on the death day of martyr Sujit Narzary,the first martyr of Bodoland movement.

Notably, the Bodoland movement under the leadership of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of ABSU was started in 1987 seeking separate Bodoland statehood within the Indian constitution that later led to sign three Bodo peace accords till date which are included BAC accord ( Bodoland Autonomous Council) in 1993, BTC accord (Bodoland Territorial Council) in 2003 and BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region) accord in 2020 which has been paving the good governance for welfare and all round development of the region.

Martyr Sujit Narzary become first martyr on 12th June(1987) during the Bodoland movement and subsequently ABSU has been observing the day as Bodoland martyrs day every year to mark the death day of Sujit Narzary.
In Kokrajhar,the central committee of the ABSU in association with Kokrajhar district committee of ABSU observed the Bodoland martyrs day at Raimona Friends Club playground,Jomduar under Gossaigaon subdivision.

The observation was started on Tuesday with two-day program scheduled which saw a good discussion on the uplift and welfare of the students’ union as well as community welfare of the Bodo community.
Thousands of delegates,and observers from different district committees, and anchalik committee participated the event.

ABSU president Dipen Boro hoisted the students union flag at half followed by homage to martyr Sujit Narzary ans martyrs of the Bodoland movement on the occasion today morning.
Leaders from different students union, social organisations including the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region,and UPPL president, Pramod Boro, Assam Assembly speaker Biswajit Daimary, MLAs, Lawrence Islary, Jiran Basumatary, UN Academy director Krishna Gopal Basumatary, former ABSU president Dipak Kumar Basumatary, former ABSU leaders, UPPL leaders,Tribal Sangha leaders were present and paid homage to martyr Sujit Narzary.

CEM of Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro recalled contributions and sacrifice of martyrs of Bodoland movement, said that today is the day of the Bodoland martyrs through whom today the Bodoland region achieved today’s juncture.
” We always remember,the contribution and dedication of the martyrs,and accordingly the Bodo peoples are coming forward to render welfare services towards the Bodo and other down trodden communities in the state”, Boro added.

Earlier on the day,the CEM of BTR, Pramod Boro offered floral tributes to Sujit Narzary at the martyrs tomb at the Bhatipara village under South Kokrajhar abchalik committee in Kokrajhar.
Wary said that the students union will be remembered contributions of Bodoland martyrs in days to come.He said that Bodo community as well down trodden communities are remembering the sacrifice and contributions of Bodoland martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the caused of the Bodoland statehood.
He said that the martyrs family members would be given away due respect and honour in days to come.
He recalled contributions and sacrifice of martyrs and martyr Sujit Narzay,who laid their valuable lives during the Bodoland statehood movement.
He said that today Bodo community as a whole observed the Bodoland martyrs day to make co-memory the martyrs on the occasion of martyrs day.He has urged the young generations to come forward towards bringing healthy welfare and development among the urged the young generations to come forward towards bringing healthy welfare and development among the society.

ABSU president Dipen Boro said that the students union organised the special session of the ABSU on the occasion of the Bodoland martyrs day observation at Jomduar in Gossaigaon Subdivision,and discussed at length on the welfare and developmental aspects of the Bodo community. He said that the students union will be remembered contributions of Bodoland martyrs in days to come.He said that Bodo community as well down trodden communities are remembering the sacrifice and contributions of Bodoland martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the caused of the Bodoland statehood.
