ABSU leaders meet Home Minister Amit Shah, discussed key Bodo issues

KOKRAJHAR,DEC 7: A delegation from the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), led by its president Dipen Boro, along with the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro and MPs Rwngwra Narzary and Joyanta Basumatary, met Union home minister, Amit Shah in New Delhi on Friday 

During the meeting, the delegation submitted a proposal to name a road in the national capital after Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, a revered leader and visionary of the Bodo community. The proposal aims to honor his contributions to the socio-cultural development and empowerment of the Bodo people.

The meeting highlighted the significance of Bodofa’s legacy and the Bodo community’s ongoing efforts to preserve and promote their identity at a national level.
The meeting also focused on several key issues concerning the Bodo community and the implementation of the Bodo Territorial Region (BTR) Peace Accord signed on 27th

January,2020 with detail on the progress and challenges in implementing the BTR Accord were discussed in detail. The leaders emphasized the need for expedited action on agreed commitments.

ABSU leaders demanded the enactment of the 125th Constitutional Amendment to strengthen provisions under the Sixth Schedule for Bodo-dominated areas.

The delegation urged the central government to expedite the ₹1,500 crore infrastructure development projects promised under the Bodo Accord.
 The delegation also called for recognizing Bodo communities living in the hills as Scheduled Tribes (Hills) to ensure their social and economic upliftment.
 The ABSU has put demand the withdrawal of all cases against National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) cadres and the release of those still imprisoned.

The ABSU delegation extended a formal invitation to Amit Shah to attend the 57th ABSU session as chief guest, scheduled to take place in Kokrajhar on second week of February,2024.
