ABSU expresses dissatisfaction on the discrimination of Bodo language

KOKRAJHAR , JULY 18: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has expressed his dissatisfaction with the discrimination of Bodo language in the state of Assam as Gauhati University has left Bodo subject in it’s five years integrated master degree course for the session of 2023-24.

Addressing the reporters today at a press conference held at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar, ABSU president Dipen Boro and general secretary Khanindra Basumatary said that the Bodo language has been discriminated again in Assam. They said that this time the Gauhati University left out Bodo subject in its five years integrated master degree course for the Session 2023-24, whereas the same university had offered courses for Assamese, Arabic, Bengali, English, ELT, Hindi, Linguistic, Persian & Sanskrit.

The students union leaders condemning the discriminating attitude of the Gauhati University authority, said, “It is a serious concern for the aspiring students by depriving their opportunity to study in five years integrated course”.
They said that the act of leaving out of five years integrated in Bodo under Gauhati University for the Session of 2023-24 is a clear discrimination on Bodo language. The students union leaders alleged that zero representatives at Bodoland University Court from Bodoland Territorial Region (Sixth Schedule Area) in members appointment and this is an injustice to the people of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

The students union demanded to review and withdraw the imposition of teaching of Science and Math in English in Bodo medium (mother tongue) Schools, which is against NEP- 2020.
The students union leaders expresses concern on the major educational issues which are related to Bodo medium, college and university education.

Gauhati University has not listed the Bodo in its five years integrated master degree course for the Session 2023-24, whereas the same university had offered courses for Assamese, Arabic, Bengali, English, ELT, Hindi, Linguistic, Persian & Sanskrit. It is a serious concern for the aspiring students by depriving their opportunity to study in five years integrated course. ABSU strongly condemn the act of partiality and injustice against the
student community and demand for immediate admission for the Bodo department from the current
session, else, we are bound to go for democratic movement for the interest of the future of the students.

Bodoland University Court member appointment: It is seen that the Office of the Governor’s
Secretariat, Raj Bhawan, Assam has nominated 12 members for the Bodoland University Court on 10th
July, 2023, eFile No. 291909/273 under Section 15 (1) (B) (xix) and section 15 (1) (B) (xx) of the
Bodoland University Act, 2009. But very surprisingly, not a single member has been nominated from the
BTR (Bodoland region) which is a serious concern for us. Bodoland University was established with the spirit of the Bodoland movement martyrs is associated with this prestigious university.
“The zero representatives from BTR is an injustice to the people of BTR. We appeal to his Excellency, the Governor of Assam & the Chancellor of the University to induct 5 court members from BTR area to the Bodoland University. ABSU will submit a memorandum to the Governor in this regard along with various issues of the university”, ABSU leaders said.

” As per the commitment of the Chief Minister of Assam the Education department and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) have been working in a mission mode to start the Bodo medium in H.S. 1st Year/2nd Year from the session 2023-24. For this printing and publication of the textbooks in Bodo are in almost in final stage.
