KOKRAJHAR, JUNE 22: The All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) welcome the publication of draft delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies by the Election Commission of India on 20th June, 2023.
Addressing the reporters today at a press conference held at Kokrajhar Press Club, ABSU president (in-charge), Khwrwmdao Wary hailed the publication of draft for delimitaton of parliamentary and assembly segments across the state of Assam by election commission of India, said that it is a laudable step initiated by ECI while making delimitaton of the constituencies.
He said the students union appreciates that the delimitation draft by the election commission of India for allowing proceeding for claims and objection.
” ABSU thank the Election Commission for hearing the appeal from ABSU for maintaining status quo of Kokrajhar Parliament Constituency on behalf of tribal people of BTR Sixth Schedule and retaining the same of Kokrajhar Parliamentary seat reserved for ST”, he said adding, however, there has been increase in number of reserved seats in Assembly for the tribals in Assam from 16 to 19 and increase of one Assembly seats in BTR, which makes it total of 15 Assembly seats in BTR with six ST reserved Assembly seats.
Further there remains some concern for the tribal people across some districts in Assam for which All Bodo Students Union will represent to the Election Commission with claims and objection on behalf of the concern Bodo concentrated areas.
Whereas, in the matter of demand made for the two Parliamentary seats in the BTR region with exclusive Assembly Constituencies under BTR has been evaded keeping only one Kokrajhar (ST) HPC. Udalguri was demanded another Parliamentary seat comprising of Assembly seats within BTR. Rather the adjustment in the draft is seen to be mixed with Assembly constituencies from outside the BTR i.e. as Darrang Parliamentary Constituency with 31-Rangia, 32-Kamalpur, 49-Sipajhar, 50-Mangaldai and 51 Dalgaon.
However, to maintain the convenience for the administration has hindered the Sixth Schedule Council territorial jurisdiction. It would be more practicable maintaining the administrative jurisdiction of present Sixth Schedule with another Parliamentary Constituency comprising the Assembly Constituencies within BTR.
The students union is looking into peoples concern especially the tribal concentration for the protection of political rights and privilege, to safeguard the identity and cultures, the students union leader said.
