ABSU observes Bodoland martyrs day

KOKRAJHAR, JUN 12: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) observes 36th Bodoland martyrs’ day today at different places in Bodoland Territorial Region districts as well across the state of Assam on the death anniversary of martyr Sujit Narzary, first martyr of Bodoland movement.

Notably, the Bodoland movement under the leadership of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of ABSU was started in 1987 seeking separate Bodoland statehood within the Indian constitution that later led to sign three Bodo peace accords till date which are included BAC accord ( Bodoland Autonomous Council) in 1993, BTC accord (Bodoland Territorial Council) in 2003 and BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region) accord in 2020 which has been paving the good governance for welfare and all round development of the region.

Martyr Sujit Narzary become first martyr on 12th June(1987) during the Bodoland movement and subsequently ABSU has been observing the day as Bodoland martyrs day every year to mark the death day of Sujit Narzary.

In Kokrajhar, the district committee of ABSU in association with South Kokrajhar anchalik committee observed the martyrs day at Bhatipara martyr tomb near Kokrajhar.
President of Kokrajhar district committee ABSU, Kripesh Daimary hoisted students union flag at half mask followed by floral tribute to martyr Sujit Narzary.
Leaders from different students union, social organisations including Kokrajhar East LAC MLA, Lawrence Islary, Gossaigaon MLA Jiran Basumatary, UN Academy director Krishna Gopal Basumatary, Chairman of Upendra Nath Brahma Trust and registrar of Bodoland University, Dr Subung Basumatary, former ABSU leaders, UPPL leaders, Tribal Sangha leaders were present and paid homage to martyr Sujit Narzary.

In Udalguri, the central committee of All Bodo Students Union in association with Udalguri district committee of ABSU observed the Bodoland martyrs day at Khwirabari Mahiranga playground.
ABSU vice president Khwrwmdao Wary hoisted students union flag followed by homage to martyrs.
An open discussion on the contributions and sacrifice of martyr Sujit Narzary was also held on the occasion.

Wary said that the students union will be remembered contributions of Bodoland martyrs in days to come. He said that Bodo community as well down trodden communities are remembering the sacrifice and contributions of Bodoland martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the caused of the Bodoland statehood.
He said that the martyrs family members would be given away due respect and honour in days to come.
He recalled contributions and sacrifice of martyrs and martyr Sujit Narzay, who laid their valuable lives during the Bodoland statehood movement.
He said that today Bodo community as a whole observed the Bodoland martyrs day to make co-memory the martyrs on the occasion of martyrs day.
