KOKRAJHAR, JUNE 5: NTPC Bongaigaon Salakati along with the district administration, Kokrajhar felicitated the successful participants of Assam Mountaineering 2023 team for their remarkable achievement in scaling the 3rd highest peak in the world, Mt. Kanchenjunga, on 25th May(2023).
Varnali Deka, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar along with Karunakar Das, Business Unit Head of NTPC Bongaigaon felicitated the entire mountaineers and congratulated them for their marvellous achievement at NTPC premises.
The two Assamese mountaineers – Shri Bhaskar Baruah and Shri Jayanta Nath who were also part of the group and unfurled the National Flag and the Assamese Gamocha at Mt Kanchenjunga were also felicitated on the occasion.
The mountaineers shared their experiences and challenges during the expedition and also thanked NTPC and District Administration for honouring them.
Varnali Deka lauded the spirit of the mountaineers and congratulated them for their extraordinary achievement. Shri Karunakar Das also acknowledged their courage and indomitable spirit in conquering the 3rd highest peak in the world.
It is pertinent to mention that this is the first organized expedition to the third-highest peak in the world from Northeast India. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu had given the ceremonial flag-off to this expedition from the State Guest House in Koinadhora on April 7 in the presence of the Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Assam and Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam.
