KOKRAJHAR, AUG 23: In a significant political development ahead of the BTC elections, three senior UPPL leaders have been resigned from the party’s various positions on Saturday in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
In Kokrajhar, senior UPPL leader Buddhadev Muchahary has tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) as well as from any assignments.
Notably, Muchahary contested the BTC elections on UPPL ticket in 2015 and 2020 respectively and faced defeat in the elections.
He was founder general secretary of UPPL party in Kokrajhar district committee,and later held vice president of the party.He was also hold the chairman of Debatgaon TCLCC, government of Bodoland Territorial Region since 2020 till date.
In Gossaigaon, Anowar Hussain, a CWC member of UPPL have resigned from the primary membership, citing personal reasons.Hussain was former AAMSU central leader from the region.
In Tamulpur, Rafael Daimary, president of Darrangajuli block committee of UPPL,has tendered his resignation from the post of president as well as primary membership, citing domestic and some technical inconveniences.
Daimary was a retired school headteacher and involved with UPPL party since retiring from the teaching profession.
Their resignation comes as a setback to the UPPL ahead of the crucial BTC elections.
However, the ruling UPPL party declared the names of 18 candidates two days i as first phase of the 40 constituencies for the upcoming BTC elections. BPF party annouced 22 candidate’s names so far and GSP declared three candidate’s names to contest the BTC elections. The BJP, AGP and Congress parties are expected to declare names of contesting candidates within a couple of days for the council elections.
