KOKRAJHAR, JULY 27: The 134th edition of the Durand Cup for Kokrajhar leg has been kicked off on Sunday at SAI stadium, Titaguri in Kokrajhar.
Indian football legend, Sunil Chhetri,the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro, former Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr Lotay Tshering, Assam cabinet minister, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command; and a host of senior officials and distinguished dignitaries were present in the event.
The event was organised by Indian Army in association with government of Assam and government of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).The Durand Cup has been conducted for third consecutive time in Kokrajhar -the city of peace.
In the inaugural match, ITBP Football Trophy (FT) defeated Karbi Anglong Morning Star Football Club (FC) by 2-1 goals.
The inaugural programme featured spectacular cultural performances by local indigenous groups, showcasing the rich traditions of the region, along with special presentations by Indian Army personnel, adding grandeur to the occasion.The mega football event gathered a well attended gathering.
Notably, Kokrajhar is set to host six Group D matches, with Bodoland FC (host team), Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC, Punjab FC, and ITBP FT vying for top honours at the venue.
Indian football legend,Sunil Chhetri extended his best wishes greetings to all participating teams in the Durand Cup,and said that the football event saw a sporting amusement amongst the sport’s lovers.He stated that the Durand Cup has brought an encouragement of sporting among the young generations across the region.
CEM of BTR, Pramod Boro stated that the Durand Cup in Kokrajhar is a historic moment for the citizens of the region.
He said that the mega football event has brought an encouraging environment among the young generations,and accordingly the Durand Cup has been held for straight third consecutive time in Kokrajhar.
