CEM Pramod Boro unveiled the grand statue and memorial of Rupnath Brahma in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, JUNE 15: In a heartfelt tribute to one of Assam’s most respected tribal leaders, the restored statue and mausoleum of Rupnath Brahma were unveiled in Kokrajhar, the headquarters of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), on the occasion of his 124th birth anniversary on Sunday.
The event saw a well attended gathering of people cutting across the communities in the region.

The restored statue was inaugurated at Pragati Bhawan, Kokrajhar, while his final resting place — a mausoleum — was formally unveiled at Owabari village, his native place. The restoration was made possible by the Rupnath Brahma Memorial Day Observation Committee with support from the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region, along with Bodo Sahitya Sabha President Dr. Surath Narzary, led the inauguration ceremonies and paid rich floral tributes to the legendary leader.

Marking the occasion, a seminar on the topic “Biography and Contribution of Mahari Sibisula Rupnath Brahma” was also held, highlighting his life and multifaceted contributions to Bodo society and the state of Assam.

Rupnath Brahma was a visionary leader, literary figure, and cultural reformer. He holds several firsts in the history of the Bodo community — the first law graduate, the first MLA, the first Minister, and the longest-serving Tribal Minister in the Assam cabinet. He is also widely regarded as the architect of modern Kokrajhar town.

The commemorative event was attended by senior government officials, scholars, cultural activists, and local residents who came together to honour his enduring legacy.

CEM of BTR, Pramod Boro stated that the restored statue and mausoleum was formally inaugurated on Sunday amidst a well attended gathering.He recalled contributions and dedication of Rup Nath Brahma,a great leader of Bodo and tribal community,who served longest tribal minister in the state cabinet.He said that Rupnath Brahma left a legacy of academic excellence, social reform and dedicated public service. His life was devoted to the welfare & progress of BTR, and this memorial will serve as an inspiration for future generations to come.

Among others, MLA Lawrence Islary,Kokrajhar Municipality Board chairperson Pratibha Brahma were prominent attendees in the event.
