KOKRAJHAR,MAR 10: The Government of Assam has announced plans to develop and uplift the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) as a key Economic Corridor under the Assam Budget 2025-26 fiscal year.
In the state budget being presented by the Finance Minister, Ajanta Neog on Monday, the Govt of Assam has earmarked ₹ 5,333 Crores for BTR’s welfare, infrastructure & implementation of the BTR Peace Accord 2020, fostering sustainable peace & fueling progress like never before.
The state government earmarked Rs. 4,160 Crores for Bodoland Welfare Department of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) under various schemes and initiatives. The state government has also allocated Rs. 1,143 crores for Bodoland Council’s infrastructure developments and has sanctioned an additional Rs. 30 crores to support over 4,000 families affected by past ethnic conflicts in BTR.
During the budget,the state government has emphasized a significant step to initiative for the creation of the Bhutan-Bodoland-Bay of Bengal (B3 Corridor), which aims to enhance logistics connectivity between Bhutan and India, linking the region with Jogighopa and Phulbari.
The proposed corridor is expected to facilitate efficient trade and transportation, boosting economic activities across the region and strengthening the cross-border ties with Bhutan.
This strategic development is set to improve infrastructure, promote regional trade, and position BTR as a vital link in the broader economic landscape.
The budget has also laid emphasise to step towards the implementation of all clauses of the historic BTR Peace Accord of 2020.
The budget mandates the teaching of Bodo or Assamese as compulsory subject in Bodoland Region.The budget addresses regarding BTR’s welfare and development which are included rehabilitation of the former NDFB cadres, with over 6,600 former members receiving financial support, and more than 270 cases against them being withdrawn. GI tag receiving for 21 traditional Bodo product to promote heritage across the region.
