KOKRAJHAR,DEC 24: A programme for promoting the nutritional and agricultural benefits of millets, known as India’s “Golden Grain,” was inaugurated at the Bodoland Administrative Staff College, Chandamari in Kokrajhar on Monday.
The event was organized by the North-Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), government of India and sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the initiative aimed at boosting millet consumption and production across the region.
The event saw the participation of over 50 farmers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders, with stalls showcasing a variety of millet-based products that attracted the participants.
NERAMAC deputy general manager (DGM), Anjal Kumar Dutta, BTC Principal Secretary, Akash Deep, Chief Scientist of KVK Kokrajhar Sunil Kumar Pal, Nodal Officer for Millets in Assam, Sailendra Saikia, and Kokrajhar District Commissioner, Masanda Magdalin Pertin, spoke on the ocassion and underscored the historical significance of millets in traditional diets and their role in food security.
Dutta stated that the program was organised to promote the nutritional and agricultural benifits of millets amongst the citizens.He said that government of India and state government are jointly working for bringing this initiative to have beneficial to the common masses across the region.
