KOKRAJHAR, MAY 5: The All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) has withdrawn it’s 3-hour sit in protest demonstration at every district headquarters of Assam including Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on 8″ May, 2023 as per the decision of the executive meeting taken on dated 12″ April, 2023 held at Mayuri Guest House, Manas National Park on demand of Village notification of the Boro-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) administered area, Constituency formation, conduct of election and increase of the fund for council for the 2023-24 financial years to resolve socio-political issues, education and economic development of the Bodo people in Assam.

Addressing the reporters at a press conference today held at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar,ABSU president Dipen Boro informed that the decision to withdraw was taken after the draft publication of the notification by the Governor of Assam issued on 4h May, 2023 after announcement of the protest dharna on 2nd May, 2023. It has already been elapsed 3 years without village notification, election, and constituency.
” The Union welcomes the present initiative and extends our gratitude to the state government for beginning step for implementation of the Clause 5.1 MoS of Bodo accord. Further, the Union demand for time bound completion of all the remaining process without further delay. The Union has already instructed to all the district committee, ABSU to submit claims and objections for inclusion and exclusion of villages before 12 May, 2023 after the discussion with all the Bodo organisations, intellectuals, and social workers resolve the aspiration of the Bodo people living outside the sixth schedule in Assam”,Boro said.

Further, The Union decided to sit for Protest Demonstration’ on 29h of May, 2023 at Kokrajhar demanding to stop constant harassment, mental and psychological pressure by NIA during hearing and trial by the special court to the former NDFB which is reported by the family members of the jailed former NDFB. The Union clearly stated that after signing of the Bodo Peace Accord, 27h January, 2020 all those steps are unjustified and unfortunate to the peace-loving people.

ABSU appeals to the Union government to stop the hearing and trial, convicting one after another by NIA court and demand for release of all under trial and convicted members of ex NDFB by CBI and NIA and withdrawal of all the remaining cases for the interest of permanent peace and harmony in the region maintaining the true spirit of the peace accord. In this regard the the students union will send memorandum to the President of India, Prime Minister of India and Home Minister of India very soon.
