KOKRAJHAR,AUG 10: Marjit Basumatary, an established businessman and eminent social worker, passed away last night at a private hospital in Siliguri of West Bengal.
Basumatary was admitted to the hospital few days ago after a pressure stroke,and breathed his last late last night about 11.45 pm.
Basumatary who is popularly known Mahajwn, a resident of Jaraguri under Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district, was widely known for his significant contributions to social and philanthropic causes. His dedication to community service made a notable impact on many lives in the region.
He was 65 years old.
The news of his death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from individuals across various sectors, reflecting the deep respect and admiration he garnered throughout his life.
The funeral of Basumatary was performed today evening at his native place.
Pramod Boro,the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region has extended deep condolences and mourning on the demise of Marjit Basumatary,who was well-known amongst the citizens in the region for his active social activities.He has recalled contributions of Basumatary towards the welfare and uplift of the human society across the region, said that this is a grief with sorrow moment for the peoples of the greater Gossaigaon area.
” The society especially Bodo community lost a good human being with the expired of Basumatary”,Boro said.
Assam cabinet minister, Urkhao Gwra Brahma paid last respect to Basumatary at his Jaraguri residence,and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
In his condolence message, Brahma said, ” It is a very deep saddened to hear that Marjit Basumatary, popularly known as Mahajwn of Jaraguri, Gossaigaon is no more. He was associated with various social organisations and as a successful businessman he has wide contributions towards the development of his area. May God bless him and keep his departed soul in peace”, Brahma said.
Various social organisations, individuals including Gossaigaon MLA Jiron Basumatary,Kokrajhar MLA Lawrence Islary, UPPL party leaders representing central committee, Gossaigaon district, Kokrajhar district committees have extended their deep condolences and mourning on the demise of Marjit Basumatary.
