KOKRAJHAR, JULY 14: The trophy tour for the 133rd edition of Durand Cup 2024,a mega football tournament has been kicked off with great enthusiasm in Kokrajhar- The City of Peace, on Sunday that witnessed a grand gathering, apart from sports lovers and citizens.
The trophy unveiling ceremony was held at the Bodofa Cultural Complex, Chandamari in Kokrajhar in a well attended gathering of sports lovers, Indian army officials, government officials from Bodoland Territorial Region and government of Assam.
Assam cabinet minister for sports & youth welfare, Nandita Gorlosa, the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro, Indian Army officials flagged off the event at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Chandamari in Kokrajhar.
Notably,the Durand Cup trophy tour arrived today in Kokrajhar,and ceremonially displayed amidst huge gathering of sports lovers,and citizens.
The Durand is organised by the Indian Armed Forces,and supported by the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and government of Assam, especially the Kokrajhar-the city of peace is hosting the event for second consecutive time this year 2024 itself,and gaining up it’s popularity for smooth organising of the event.
After decades of violence & strife, peace reigns all around in BTR. And in this atmosphere of peace & tranquility, BTR is hosting the historic Durand Cup2024 for the second time in Kokrajhar.
A multi community cultural demonstration was also conducted on the occasion which created strong amusement.
Pramod Boro,the chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) while gracing the event said that the Durand Cup is now held in Kokrajhar for second consecutive years.
He said that after being mired in a vicious cycle of violence for decades, the BTR has emerged into the sunshine of peace & progress in the last 3.5 years. The hosting of the Durand Cup in BTR is testament to the pervasive peace & tranquility in BTR today.
” It was a delighted moment to attend the trophy unveiling & flag off ceremony of the 133rd edition of the Durand Cup 2024, in Kokrajhar, the City of Peace.
Football is a passion for all citizens of BTR, young & old, and it has been our government’s assiduous efforts to vastly enhance BTR’s sporting infrastructure as well as incubate an environment of peace where the budding sporting talents of our youth can blossom & flourish”, Boro said.

Minister Gorlosa extended her best wishes and greetings to the organising committee of the Durand Cup being held at different places across the country.She said that the football is a game in which peoples can witness healthy sporting environment.
Among others, cabinet minister, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MPs Rwngwra Narzary, Joyanta Basumatary, BTCLA speaker Katiram Boro, Lt. Gen. RC Srikanth, VSM, Chief of Staff, HQ Eastern Command, Chairman, DCOC,, eminent footballer Halicharan Narzary were prominent to in the event.
Meanwhile,SAI stadium playground in Kokrajhar is fully prepared to host the Durand Cup football tournament which is scheduled to be held from 30th July.
The SAI stadium playground is decorated with beautiful attraction,and the gallery has been prepared with well equipped arrangements fir the spectators.
